Temporary Weekend On-Call Seasonal Snow Plow Operators to Join the Team!

Snow Plow Operators maintain roads according to standards using heavy equipment, routine inspection and maintenance of heavy equipment, yards, and shop. Also performs duties of Winter Road Patroller as needed.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures roads are safe for public use by plowing, and placing sand/salt/liquid on roads as required
  • Inspection of Equipment to ensure it is in good working order prior to use at the beginning of every shift. Includes recording and reporting any and all vehicle deficiencies
  • Awareness of obstacles adjacent to the road to avoid damage to Public Property when operating plow – including snow off the wing
  • Routine inspection and maintenance of plow and related equipment
  • In collaboration with the Patroller on duty, assess the road conditions to determine the most appropriate course of action to best improve the road condition (sand/salt/plow road / do nothing) before and during the shift
  • Responsible for CVOR logging of on-duty time and ensuring he/she does not exceed regulatory limits
  • Communicate to the patroller on duty on route road conditions and actions being taken – particularly as conditions change
  • Applies anti-icing liquids as needed
  • Operating loader to load and move materials
  • Yard and building cleaning and maintenance as directed
  • Observe and communicate any defects, hazards, deficiencies, or accidents that exist on the road to the lead hand on duty
  • Inform the lead hand of any on-the-road issue with equipment or observed accident or property damage
  • Other Shop, equipment, Yard, and road maintenance duties as needed as defined by Patrol Road Worker 2 position
  • Performs duties of Winter Road Patroller as needed

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Class DZ Driver License
  • 1 yr operating a truck (i.e. tandem) in a construction or maintenance environment
    successful completion of the Huron County Plow Operator training program
  • Driver abstract without significant violations
  • Qualified to operate a chainsaw

Preferred Skills:

  • AZ License

Hours/On-Call:

  •  On-call every Saturday and Sunday.  Weather dependent.

Wage:

  • $29.85 – $34.93 per hour; as per the 2024 non-union pay grid (There are four levels within the pay band, and the rate increases a level every year you return), plus $1.80/hour in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation pay. You will be paid $75.00/day when on-call on the weekends.
