Full-Time Associate Director of Care!

Huronview and Huronlea are sister Homes in the County of Huron. These municipal homes provide health services for those who can no longer live independently in their own homes and require nursing and personal care 24 hours a day. The Associate Director of Care assists the Directors of Care at Huronview Home for the Aged with the effective management and operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with the Long Term Care Homes Act and Regulations, Excellent Care for All Act, and other related legislation, and County by-laws, policies and procedures, with a focus on nursing employee services and supports.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Directors of Care, shall plan, develop, organize, implement and monitor the nursing service to assure the highest quality care is delivered to the Residents of Huronview and Huronlea Homes.
  • Initiates the hiring, onboarding, probationary and off boarding process for Huronview and could assist with Huronlea. Monitors probationary and off boarding process for Huronview nursing staff and agencies.
  • Completes Performance Development for students, Personal Support Workers and Resident Care Aides.
  • Coordinating and overseeing student placement in the homes for the Nursing department
  • Assist with transitioning student placement to to staffing compliment in the nursing department
  • Works with schedulers to produce and maintain nursing department schedules, signs absence request slips and the vacation planner. Works with employees to ensure shift coverage.
  • Supervises and monitors daily staff performance including coaching and discipline, in conjunction with the Director of Care at Huronview.
  • Works in conjunction with Human Resources Department to manage the nursing department staff who are on modified work, return to work, work hardening, and short- and long-term disability, including on-site meetings and provide updates as necessary to payroll, Director of Care and the schedulers.
  • Assists with departmental audits and/or Inspection Protocols to assess performance and the smooth operation of the department.
  • Schedule, host and record regular PSW staff meetings and provide written minutes to the Directors of Care. The Director of Care will attend and assist with these meetings, as needed.
  • Assists Director of Care with at Huronview with Registered staff meetings.
  • Liaise with the Director of Care regarding emerging issues within the nursing department and communicate policies, protocols and expectations to the nursing staff.
  • Supports the Directors of Care by responding to inquiries from Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Inspectors in their absence, including assisting in Critical Incident reporting and management.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary Handle with Care, Continence and Falls teams acting in the role of team lead. Participates in quality improvement goals.
  • Participates in Leadership Team of the Homes and participates in rotational after hours on call.
  • May be required to provide coverage and support in the absence of the Director of Care or extended leave of Huronlea’s ADOC/IPAC lead
  • In collaboration with the Directors of Care, oversees departmental policy management which includes staff education on new or revised policies and procedures.
  • Manages medication incidents which includes preparing and delivering reports at the Professional Advisory Committee meeting.
  • Liaise with Director of Care and Clinical Pharmacist on Medication Incidents related to interventions and follow-up requirements.
  • Collaborates to ensure delivery of a relevant and effective education program for the nursing department including best practices.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • RN and/or BScN, RPN with continuing education in Gerontology, Nursing Administration, Long Term Care or equivalent.
  • Human Resources education would be an asset.
  • Have completed or willing to complete an ADOC leadership certificate program.
  • Experience working in a unionized setting is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years progressive nursing management experience and/or three years of active nursing experience in a gerontology setting.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills in both a professional and organizational setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of government legislation in areas of employment, health and safety, and human rights.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate for vulnerable sector screening.
  • Access to reliable transportation when travel is required between Homes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Exemplary nursing skills.
  • Computer skills including resident charting software and in depth knowledge of infection control principles.
  • Must be cognizant of privacy legislation.

Wage:

$51.76 – $60.54 per hour; as per the 2024 non-union wage grid.
